4 Years After Becoming House Owner in Sydney, Josh Hazlewood Moved To A $3.8 Million Auction Home In 2016

Four Years After Buying First House in Sydney, Josh Hazlewood moved To A $3.8 Million Auction Home In 2016
Josh Hazlewood and his girlfriend moved to their new house in 2016.

Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood was born in Tamworth. However, to make his cricketing career, he moved to Sydney in 2002. He bought his first house in the city in 2012 and then moved to a bigger mansion in 2016. The pacer paid a price of $3.8 million for the same.

Hazlewood is not the first Australian cricketer to have invested millions in real estate. His fellow teammates such as Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Marnus Labuschagne, etc also live in some world-class apartments.

However, unlike some of the above mentioned names, Hazlewood didn’t benefit from a hefty Indian Premier League contract at the time of buying both his homes. For the unversed, Hazlewood’s much-awaited IPL debut had happened in 2020.

Having come to Sydney as a six-year-old boy, he was selected to play for New South Wales in junior cricket. Playing nearly 200 international matches across formats for Australia and buying a couple of opulent homes in all these years must certainly be a big thing for Hazlewood.

Hazlewood bought his $3.8 million property in the Hunter Hill area in Sydney’s lower north shore. It is a big four-bedroom home with all the luxurious and comfortable amenities. The double-storey house has an infinity pool apart from a media room and entertainment areas. There is ample space in the backyard as well where Hazlewood usually trains.

Hazlewood bought the property in an auction. He said at the time that the biggest reason behind switching places was because he needed a bigger space to live with his girlfriend.

“This house was an auction, so it was another exciting moment. I conveniently happened to be away when it came time to move so a lot of the moving fell on my girlfriend Cherina. We’ve got a lot more stuff now, so the next move might be more difficult!,” Hazlewood had said as quoted by

Hazlewood and Cherina Murphy started dating each other in 2010 and eventually got married a decade later in 2020. There is no information about Murphy’s professional life in the public forum as of now.

Before shifting to the Hunter Hill property, Josh Hazlewood used to live in a three-bedroom apartment in Waterloo. There is not much information about the place, but it is said that Hazlewood still hasn’t sold that property. Hazlewood even admitted that he had to take help of his seniors to do all the paperwork.

“I didn’t know anything at all [about property]. I talked to a few of the senior guys who’d gone through it to find out about the paperwork and how things work,” Hazlewood had said as quoted by

Hazlewood’s income has significantly increased in the last few years. He can certainly move to an ever bigger property in the near future. That being said, he clearly mentioned in 2016 that it won’t be easy for him to shift again considering the amount of luggage he has now.
