Taylor Fritz Makes History, Wins 6th Career Title

Taylor Fritz won his sixth career title on Sunday by defeating Australian Aleksandar Vukic 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-4 at the Atlanta Open.

The top-ranked American is preparing for the US Open with his second win of the season on hard courts, after claiming the title from Delray Beach in February.

He showed well on his way to easily winning that title, reaching the final without dropping a set and then holding two match points as he took a 6-5 lead in the second half with a Vukic serve.

But the Australian eliminated them and then won the tie-break to force the deciding set.

Fritz, 25, recovered to take third place and robbed Vukic’s first ATP Tour title.

Vukic, 27, who played as a teammate at Illinois, will reach career 62nd place in the ATP rankings.

He will be in the top 50 if he wins.
