Shocking As Novak Djokovic Withdraws From National Bank Open In Toronto

The summer’s first ATP Masters 1000 event will take place on hard courts without Novak Djokovic. On Sunday, the Association announced the withdrawal of the world number two from the National Bank Open in Toronto, which begins on August 18. 4, because of fatigue.
Four-time Canadian champion Djokovic has not attended the tournament since 2018. He has not been allowed to enter the country for two years because he has not been vaccinated against COVID-19.
A week ago, Djokovic lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a 5-set Wimbledon final that lasted nearly 4 hours, ending a streak of 20 Grand Slam tournament victories this year.
“I’ve always enjoyed my time in Canada, but after speaking with my team, we think it was the right decision,” Djokovic said in a statement.
“I would like to thank Carl Hill, Tournament Director, for his understanding of this decision. I really hope to be back in Canada and Toronto in the next few years to perform there in front of big crowds.”
After Djokovic withdrew, Wimbledon quarterfinalist Chris Eubanks, who is currently 31st in the ATP rankings, entered the main draw.
“Obviously we are disappointed that Novak will not be competing at the National Bank Open this year,” Hill said. “He’s a great player and we know our fans can’t wait to see him at Sobis.
“We will miss him, but we still have a long list of exciting players confirmed for this year’s event, including 41 of the world’s top 42 players.”
Djokovic remains on the roster for the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, which begins Aug. 28. 18. 12. This will be his first tournament on US soil since 2021.
